Clinical governance and quality improvement

How we measure our own care, the projects we are working on, our partners in mission, and the reports we publish.

Our quality commitment

Clinical governance is the system that keeps our care safe: clear standards, honest measurement, review of what went wrong, and change that sticks.

Hospital projects

What we are building and improving

Each project has a named lead, a budget, a completion target and a public progress note. Donors and partners receive a written report on the projects they support.

In progress

Water and sanitation upgrade

Rehabilitating the hospital water supply, tanks and ward washing facilities to keep wards clean through the dry season.

In progress

Solar power and back-up supply

Expanding solar capacity so that theatre, ICU, laboratory and the cold chain stay powered when the generator is down.

Planning

Maternity ward extension

Additional delivery and postnatal beds so that more mothers from outer wards can deliver safely at the hospital.

In progress

Staff housing rehabilitation

Repairing and building staff houses, the single biggest factor in whether we can recruit and keep clinical staff.

Ongoing

Medical equipment and maintenance

Servicing of theatre, X-ray and laboratory equipment, with a spare parts and consumables plan.

Ongoing

Aid post supervision programme

Regular supervisory visits, restocking and refresher training for ward aid posts across the district.

Faith and healthcare

Why a church runs a hospital

Christian health work in Papua New Guinea is not an add-on to the health system. Church agencies deliver a substantial share of rural health services, especially where roads do not reach.

We are a Baptist hospital. That shapes how we work: we pray with patients who want prayer, we offer pastoral care alongside clinical care, and we hold ourselves accountable to a standard higher than compliance. It does not shape who we treat. Care at Telefomin Baptist District Hospital is given to every person who comes to our gate.

Volunteers and mission partners

Serving alongside us

We host clinical volunteers, visiting specialist teams, tradespeople and mission partners. Placements are arranged in advance through the CEO’s office.

Clinical volunteers

Doctors, nurses, midwives, laboratory scientists and biomedical technicians. Minimum placement of four weeks. Current PNG Medical Board or Nursing Council registration is required.

Visiting specialist teams

Surgical, eye, dental and orthopaedic teams running scheduled clinics and theatre lists. We coordinate patient screening and follow-up before and after each visit.

Skills and trades

Builders, electricians, plumbers, solar technicians, IT and administration volunteers who support the projects that keep the clinical services running.

Community engagement

The district is our governing partner

A hospital that does not listen to its district will fail it. We meet the people we serve where they are.

Tell us

Something went wrong? We want to know.

Incident reports and complaints go directly to hospital management and are reviewed every month. Reporting is welcomed, not penalised.
